The second collaboration album between Oakland art-rap group Themselves (the nasally rap of freestyle champ Doseone, the forward-thinking beats of Jel, and the clutch instrumentation of Dax Pierson) and German experimental rockers Notwist. This is the same guys from CLOUDDEAD and the wildly-creative Subtle, so you know it’s going to be good.

FCC CLEAN

1. Simple, sweet acoustic guitar song. Nice male vocals.
*2. Dark midtempo spoken-word with chilling synth lines, nice background vocals and cool turntablism effects. Halfway through a dancey beat kicks in.
3. Melodic acoustic ballad with layered vocals and cool liquidy percussion effects.
4. A midtempo darkwave beat with spoken word and beautiful male backup vocals. Plenty of metallic effects to keep things going.
*5. Almost poppy—a bouncy bassline and fuzzy guitars with smooth vox and Doesone spitting just a bit in a hype man type way.
*6. Woah, far-out. Deep philosophical lyrics over a haunting metallic beat. Great stuff.
7. More strummy acoustic indie. Lots of morbid imagery and a mournful strings accompaniment.
*8. Stutterstep upbeat production—deep basslines and great stabs of fluty instrumentation. Doseone’s signature spastic rapping.
*9. Midtempo indie rock with a hard beat and floaty vocals from Doseone. Shimmery effects.
*10. Outro track—sound collage of chopped up vocal samples, string melodies and a bit of drone. A bit or rap in there too.
