Ernie Krivda, from Cleveland, OH, is a terrific tenor saxophonist who’s been recording as a leader and sideman since the 60s. It's surprising he’s not better known. This album, an elegy to fellow Clevelander, Harvey Pekar, creator of the “American Splendor” comic books, features entertaining, energetic playing in classic be-bop style. Solid piano, bass & drums provide the backup. Guest trumpeters appear on tracks 1, 3, 5 & 7.

All instrumental. No FCC issues.

1. ** Up-tempo. Excellent long solos by trumpet and sax. This really cooks. (10:37)
2. * Slow ballad. Just sax and stylish rhythm. Krivda has a fat tone with max vibrato. (9:05)
3. * Mid-tempo Sonny Rollins tune. Tricky rhythms; you sure can’t dance to this waltz. Trumpet and sax play together and each take long solos. (11:38)
4. ** Jimmy Van Heusen ballad. Mostly slow, picks up. Pretty melody twisted all ‘round. (9:14)
5. *** Dexter Gordon tune. Great sax and trumpet. Bass and piano are featured too. (10:05)
6. ** Orig composition. Just the quartet this time. Mid-tempo, syncopated, stylish. Excellent walking bass throughout; a good, long bass solo in the second half. (8:02)
7. * Orig composition. Mid-slow and soulful. Trumpet leads much of it. (10:11)
