Ideas Of Distance

Young Man's "Ideas of Distance" is a spaced-out album that skirts the line between hypnotic ambience and slow churning indie pop. While each arrangment might not be incredibly creative, the guitar work is notable on featured tracks. Vocals are not always the focus of the songs, and instead rely on cadence and repetition for a ghostly effect. This album is easy to put on and leave on. Be careful of the common silences before/after several tracks. All tracks FCC clean.

01. (5:12) Enough: Winding vocals and accompanying acoustic guitars, full band joins halfway through.
02. (6:22) * Nothing: Drum kit drives this track. Good vibes and sparse lyrics. From 4:30 onward, sudden cut to ambiance, last 14 seconds are silence.
03. (4:13) Low: Nice, soft instrumental track that opens on acoustic guitars. Picks up intensity around 2:30.
04. (4:00) Only You: Silence for first 22 seconds. Vocal solo with faint accompaniments. Noise swells at 2:40, track cuts out 10 seconds early.
05. (1:02) * Fall: Another acoustic guitar solo. Short and sweet. Play back-to-back with the next track.
06. (5:22) * Then and Now: Understated and beautiful. Vocal cadences and processed-to-hell guitar melodies comprise most of the track.
07. (3:55) * Tired Eyes: Great (clean) electric guitar in beginning of the song. Suprisingly upbeat.
08. (10:44) Felt: Similar to all the other tracks on this album, with the arrangement three times as long. 20 seconds of silence at the end.
