Milk Maid / Yucca / Fat Cat Records / 2011 Indie Rock / Lo-Fi with some alternative. Led by Martin Cohen, a young sincere sounding guy, with accompaniment of drums, electric guitar, and bass. Young calm guys that have tempests in their hearts, showing in their distortional guitars and vocals (sometimes). Good for afternoon wake-up I’d say, not too rough at all, but doesn’t fall into the soft sad either. Has an innocently grungy feel, like Beach Boys meet Wavves. No FCC detected (distortion makes it hard to understand all the words) Favorites: 2,3,4,8 1. “Such Fun” (2:13) - Distorted vocals over generally distorted skater rock guitar chords, with piercing electric near end 2.* “Can’t You See” (3:23) - Clearer electric guitar, nice simple (surfer) chords, contrasted to distorted vocals 3.* “Oh!” (3:53) - More melancholic vocals, more indie lo-fi. Emotionally calm against the shaky guitar 4.* “Dead Wrong” (2:27) - Borderline surfer punk, long dragged out vocals, slight distortion 5. “Girl” (2:59) - Yes, she was an american girl. This one is an emotional garage slow-dance. “Not Me” (3:55) - A pretty classic rock rift, with a nice contrast in the vocals (the old beach boys style with modern harshness). Breaks into electric distortion jam at 2 min, then returns to the familiar surfy tune “Kill Me Again” (0:49) - Short emotional distorted singalong * “Same As What” (2:34) - Has a folky guitar at the beginning, no distortion, clear. Emotional youthful lyrics, good stuff. Good for anytime “Back of Your Knees” (3:45) - Distortion emotion. One of the more heartbroken ones, but not sad. Full on distortion jam, really good, 3/4 in. “Sad Song” (2:20) - Not that sad! Has a poppy rock guitar, with same punky vocals “Someone You Thought You’d Forget” (3:22) - Melancholic guitar chords, with soft deep youthful vocals. Slow song, very pleasant, doesn’t leave you asleep. | ||
