Pixies Doolittle Tribute by San Francisco Bay Area Musicians (4/5) Diverse musicians from the Bay Area gather under director Aaron Novik to pay tribute to the classic album of the legendary 90’s alternative rock band. The remake features musicians from various genres ranging from Afrobeat to heavy metal, and each band blends its own style into the Pixie’s original track. Naturally, the result is a unique blend of music quite different from the Pixies’ original. #1 (6:39) : Remake by ALBINO! Afrobeat. Begins with serene classical string ensemble and turns more funky from the middle. #2 (3:40) : Remake by Seth Augustus & Patrick Cress. More bluesy and folky. Husky vocal with acoustic slide guitar and saxophone. #3 ** (2:52) : Remake by Classical Revolution & Unwoman. Refreshing female vocal. Electric violin with string background. #4 * (9:21) : Remake by Doctor Edmund Welles Bass Clarinet Quartet & the Axe-Wielders of Chaos. More heavy metal, avant-garde, and psychedelic than the original. #5 (3:53) : Remake by Joe Bagale. Upbeat like the original but bit slower in tempo. #6 * (4:20) : Remake by Beep! Almost instrumental. Various electronic effects create much heavier and psychedelic air. #7 (3:30) : Remake by Conspiracy of Venus Choir. Vocal like church choir. More emphasis on melodies than original. #8 ** (4:27) : Remake by LoCura. More upbeat, jazzy and Latin. Female vocal. #9 * (3:12) : Remake by The Japonize Elephants. Upbeat but less heavy. Parts of vocal are replaced by a violin solo. #10 * (4:49) : Remake by Dina Maccabee. More serene. Female vocal, chorus, classical string ensemble, banjo. #11 (6:18) : Remake by Aaron Novik. Hynotic, psychedelic. Heavy reverb and chorus effect. #12 (3:26) : Remake by Rob Reich Trio ft. Ralph Carnet. Upbeat. Emphasis on brass instruments. #13 (5:37) : Remake by Blue Rabbit. Slower and more R&B like than original. Soulful female duet vocal. #14 (3:56) : Remake by Karina Denike & Lily Taylor. Lethargic like the original. Female duet vocal. #15 (4:30) : Remake by Sarah Palmer & Wiener Kids. Lethargic, Female vocal chorus. |
