[coll]: Exile: CD of Love 2011

--All Tracks are FCC CLEAN--
This collection features San Francisco artists who donated their music to support the community radio station KUSF-in-Exile, the former radio station of the University of San Francisco KUSF-FM (90.3). The album, called “Exile: CD of Love,” aimed to help offset rising legal fees in the challenge between the station and the University of San Francisco and the FCC. The album was originally given away at the fundraising CD release party show which featured such artists as The Slow Poisoner, Palace Family Steakhouse, David + Joanna, Buxter Hoot'n and Zonk. The CD cover artwork is from David Mark Grant, Elizabeth Ashcroft, Allen Hui and Andrew Goldfarb.
1. Palace Family Steakhouse - “All I’ve Got Left to Say” is a witty, rocked-out sort of maniacal rant with hilarious lyrics.
2. Persephone’s Bees - “City of Love” is a catchy, cool and engaging 60's pop-like song with a playful dance funk and stuttering beat. This song was used in the opening credits of “Bewitched” movie.
3. The Slow Poisoners - “Easy Virtue” is a unique song that builds slowly with a dramatic air to it. It has a campy theatricality to it and is heavily drenched in British psychedelic 60s to mid 70s pop.
4. Small Halo - “Lion” is a psychedelic rock type song with an amazing and odd female vocal to accompany it.
5. Orixa - “Locos” If you like hip hop/rock/funk, you will like this tune which is sung in “Spanglish”.
6. Human Life Index - “9000th Century” falls into progressive-metal territory, complete with massive guitar riffs and the slashing violin bursts.
7. The Marginal Prophets - “Like This!” is an independent hip-hop/rap song over multi-level beats with interesting/fun lyrics.
8. Holland Greco - “Butterflies” is an underground gypsy rock/funky pop tune with great female vocals.
9. Bang Data - “Pressure” Catchy song that brings a mix of slick and melodic guitar, gritty synth & bass, over banging electro-acoustic rhythms along with wonderful bilingual rhymes and melodies.
10. Buxter Hoot’n - “Blue Night” A Country/Indie radio-ready tune that nicely blends male and female vocals and has some amazing shredding by the lead guitarist.
11. David + Joanna - “Adultry” has a slow country like guitar with beautifully intertwined vocals and emotional lyrics.
12. fear of math - “Scripps” is an emotional, heavy tune dealing with the dark topic of cancer that has a strong, great use of percussion and hard rock guitar.
13. Zonk - “Hard, Full, Often” A unique sounding alternative rock song with a powerful voice and surprisingly interesting lyrics.
14. ing - “dove” is an intriguing and compelling song with a Beatles-like sound and a great message behind it.
My picks: 2, 7 & 10 Ramzi Salti
