Tile is the “pop” project of ace ambient musician Jeff Roman (Sky Stadium). You should check this one out, it’s just such a departure from his earlier stuff it’s incredible. It’s like Prince making a folk album—of course you would listen to it. Plus you actually get to hear him sing! The whole album has similar vibes and a new wavey 80’s throwback feel—echoed lyrics, metallic 808 drumbeats, cool keyboard stabs, etc.
RIYL: Cold Cave, Run DMT

1. Midtempo—Deep growling keyboard jabs and echoed lyrics make this one a bit of a downer.
*2. Pop-infused with a steady banging beat and swirly layers of keyboard.
3. Slow crawling keyboard arpeggios.
*4. Gooey, swampy layers of synth, too-cool-for-school lyrics. Repetitive riffs, but still interesting. The best part is the 40 second instrumental at the end, so be sure not to fade it out.
5. Slow dream Sky Stadium ambient soundscape with an airy minimalist beat over the top.
*6. Mid tempo and emotional with a light beat and murky guitar chords. A bit of a Modern English vibe in there too.
*7. Killer ambient piece—early morning, bleary eyes, watching the sun rise. I knew Jeff couldn’t stay away from Sky Stadium for long.
8. Definitely the poppiest on the album. A cool lo-fi dancey beat, but it doesn’t really work with the deadpan vocals.
