An interesting, bass-led sextet full of guys who obviously like playing with each other. Compositions by Phillips that produces delivers chamber jazz that combines folk melodies with mixed meters and crazily dynamic interplays. Solid performances from all with special mention of Raz Abbasi on guitars. Featuring John O’Gallagher om alto sax, Tony Moreno drums, Glen Fitten on percussion and Jon Werking on piano.
*1. Mostly midtempo, lyrical and w/ sax on lead driving the journey.
*2. Rambling w/varying tempos and hot solos. Phillips shines.
*3. Fun and playful, with each joining in time and adding to the joy.
4. Downtempo, reflective, full off longing. Picks up later.
5. Sweetly moving mid/upbeat with a wink of playfulness.
6. Downtempo, with nicely atonal sections that exude sadness.
*7. Slow then it ramps up with great guitar solos. So good.
8. Mid/upbeat with solid work from all and a nice energy.
