Me and the Moon - Philippe Bronchtein (aka Hip Hatchet)

As a veteran touring musician whose friends are settling down into midlife, Bronchtein has the creds to reflect upon the life he's chosen for himself. His captivating voice combined sublime accompaniments create a wispy sonic backdrop for his introspective lyrics, eg 'leaving is easy, it's being gone that's hard'. True to the previous generations of singer songwriters like Utah Phillips and Van Zandt he also takes on issues of the day such as the country's bifurcated national psyche. If you like them at all you should give Bronchtein a spin.

RYIL: JJ Cale, Guy Clark, John Fahey

*1) Me and the Moon - slow, bitter-sweet story of life on the road
2) spare ode to life's unfilled dreams
*3) slow, beautiful celebration about returning home while lamenting growing older
*4) quiet, finger picked beauty about a guy's take on being left behind
*5) reflection on the life of a troubadour with great dobro accompaniment
6) Joy of Repetition - wistful reflection on whether one's chosen the right path in life with great slide backing
*7) Ginger Tea and Wine - great finger picked story about touring Britain
8) I'm a Runner - melancholic reflection on loneliness (leaving is easy, it's the being gone that's hard
