Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2019-06-26
Re-release of 90’s era “progressive death metal” from England. Complex stuff, not the same old for sure with unique almost comical lead vocals contrasted with an occasional “nice” vocalist. Hits all the cylinders: multi-metered parts, Deep Purple Hammond Organ, Celtic folky barroque’isms. Way beyond Napalm Death. Despite the heaviness the vocals really give it a cinematic, entertaining feel.

1) (4:07) starts mid stoney then launches into 2/4 and gallops, melodic hook 2)* (8:07) begins with acoustic guitar and a Celtic folk feel, but that ends quick replaced by mean swaggery rock then lotsa change ups, intense 3)** (7:42) this has a childlike piano part in it that lends a thoroughly twisted contrast to the dark pummeling 4) (9:05) drama metal tone in the “nice” vocals in the first part, slow mean demonic rock. 5) (7:11) epic hitting all crazed elements of evil 6) (5:49) truly bizarre delving into a smarmy upbeat bar jazzy thing for the first minute or so then the guitar joins in, 9th chords, fucking strange strange shit!! 7) (7:59) FCC (fucking) 8)* (10:34) starts w obligatory baroque classical guitar, the heavy rocking comes soon with deep purple Hammond organ, then cinematic changes and evil dark story telling
