– General Description: This is a collection of recordings of various musical practices from the Laotian provinces of Champasak, Attapeu, Sekong, Saravan, Luang Namtha and Phongsaly. Apparently you are not allowed to expand on any musical ideas as motives/phrases are introduced and then endlessly repeated. The singing, at times, reminds me of pure flamenco vocals and old-time Appalachian music. The various mouth organs (dour, khene, a qeej) are made with bamboo tubes. They sound like accordions.
