Ballast – Sound Asleep (Profane Existence)
Canadian hardcore. A slight crusty sound, catchy anthems with female vocals you can understand. They have an influence I haven’t heard in a while, the old peace-punk sound and politics. There are often two vocalists singing at once. The clean singing female vocals up front and gruff male vocals in the background. Think Lost Cherrees, Nausea, and Tragedy.
**1. Pretty, slow, and dark instrumental beginning. This changes into straight ahead hardcore with tradeoff male/female vocals. Great anthem and breakdown.
**2. Short, punk, that starts slow and then rips. Harsher vocals.
3. More melodic guitar, like good emo.
**4. Dark, slow, and sad beginning. If The Gits were a hardcore band. Catchy.
5. Straight forward with more tradeoff vocals. Unique breakdown.
**6. More of a riff and punk sounding. Male vocals more upfront. Hopeful.
7. Feedback and arpeggiated chord intro. Goes into speedy hardcore. The track appears to end early and unexpectedly.
8. Another quick punk-ish track with simpler quick guitar.
9. Busier and longer.
10. Super catchy and somewhat repetitive.
Good stuff. -mph
