BRAIN DRILL - "Apocalyptic Feasting" (Metal Blade)
Over the top technical death metal from SANTA CRUZ. This honestly seems like the guitar player is just practicing his scales and sweep picking. It's so ridiculous with the number of changes in every track and all the silly notes on guitar that I'm not even sure this is any good. But it is funny! The drums sound damn near a drum machine, the vocals are mostly guttural. The band contains former members of VILE and VITAL REMAINS. Imagine if CRYPTOPSY was trying to make joke technical death metal and the guitar player was on speed. The band has already broken up, which adds to the idea that this was a joke. Weed had to be involved.
1. Fast and brutal before going through a whole bunch of quick changes. Definite nods to CRYPTOPSY but with too much sweep picking and scale practice on guitar.
2. Headbanging chugs interspersed with quick flurries of guitar notes. Both guttural vocals and high pitched screams.
*3. Ridiculous sweeping on guitar that completely dominates the track. Heavy and brutal but it made me laugh. About zombies.
*4. Some discordance. Odd rhythms. Reminds me a little of CATTLE DECAPITATION with parts and solos that remind me of NILE. Anti-cop
5. Heavy but with some silly sounding parts because of the tone of the drums and ridiculous guitar playing. Political/social
6. Heavy and fast...well...duh.
7. Midpaced heaviness eventually speeds up.
8. Quiet noise into. Sweep, sweep, noodle, noodle, including some jazzy parts and bass tapping.
9. Almost a humable melody but still fast, heavy and technical.
*10. Extra fast. Listen to those drums. They don't even sound real. More bass tapping.
Huh? I think I like this. -mph
