Album Review
Your Imaginary Friend
Reviewed 2012-01-03
Promo CD of vinyl-only release: Dreamy landscapes of sound, synth/electronic based, heavily layered instrumentals that weave a hypnotic tapestry. Experimedia artist who has collaborated a bunch in last 10 years, based these works on the writings of J.A. Baker’s “the peregrine”. For fans of Brian Eno, Hans Otte, Eliane Radigue, Alvin Lucier, Mick Harris, Harold Budd. All tracks are “gorgeous” (as Adam sez).

1) (16:58) begins with a Gregorian chantish drone but quickly launches into soaring dreamy balmy synth waves, mildly melodic, a slow subliminal bass-line appears after ~5 minutes, about midway a semi-false ending and piece takes on a more urgent almost noisey drone, lovely
2) (17:18) 1st five min are pure dreamy balms washing over in slow waves, pure Eno’esque dream-state, then it shifts to a somewhat more melodic treatment with mirage-like pianos, distant, intensifies, collapses midway, arises again
3) (7:04) pure drone-balm, more distorted and straight to the point
4) (6:56) 100% balm, dreamy, pretty
5) (3:38) Gregorian chant-drone returns at start, this is like a condensed version of track 1, radio-friendly length
6) (4:08) another distilled track: dreamy with sublte bass-line
