A free EP by the Melvins, genius godfathers of sludge rock—and they’re still at it, folks! With two drummers pounding away, their impeccably coordinated syncopation is as groovy as ever, and Buzzo’s still cranking out the riffs like it’s nobody’s business. It’s got all the raw power of their early stuff, and the abrasive edginess of their recent material. I can’t really think of a reductive way to describe the Melvins, they’re just the fucking Melvins, and if you want rock’n’roll that rocks harder and heavier than Satan’s scrotum, you need to crank this!
No FCCs.
1. (3:40) *Starts with their signature clickety-clack syncopation; muscular, badass angular riffs barrel through a hoarse sonic assault.
2. (7:04) *Menacing doom, drums wander and eventually find their way into a sludgy Zeppelin-esque bongblaster of a tune.
3. (4:19) Weird whispery intro of quiet humming, wind… at 1:04 an eerie plodding riff lurches into existence, surging into some heavy declarative crescendos with warbling lead guitar.
4. (4:23) Aptly titled “really long wait”… a boring interlude with strings and chanting voices
5. (4:10) Midpaced weird anthemic-but-not (as only the Melvins can do), catchy but disjointed, shows off their 70s hard rock influence
