J.T.C.: Beats in Space Label:
Wow, I absolutely love this little EP, which features synth driven sounds that recall vintage sci-fi and new wave. Track #1 ("Beats in Space") recalls Buck Rogers and all the cheesy sci-fi of decades ago, and it's so much fun I can't consider it as merely a dance track. This should've been the soundtrack for a sci-fi TV show. The remix (#2) is too modern, cold & minimal, and doesn't do it justice. However, tracks #3 & #4 stand up great on its own accord, as they feature JTC's love for synth-driven electro-dance music.
1. Space-y sci-fi intro leads into an electro-house track that has an awesome vintage 70s sci-fi tribute, complete with vocals that say "beats in space". Cute and you can imagine "Buck Rogers" or "Flash Gordon" dancing to this.
2. Remix of #1 that sadly removes all the cheesy sci-fi and turns it into a synth-driven minimal broken-beat textured-techno track. I wish the remixer had tried to do something different with the vintage sound of the original.
3. Theatrical synths and a cute cheesy casiotone melody, big analog buildups, then hi-hats come in and transform this track into a lush synth-pop epic
4. Wonderful use of retro & new-age synths, all warm & richly layered and bubbling with goodness, over this essentially disco/old-school vintage house track.
