Cecile Hortensia - Papillons (Electro Lotus Label)
Bilingual Country/Folk. Gentle music from delicate-voiced singer, born in France and now based in Arizona. Mostly mid-tempo. Female Vox, Electric Guitar, Bass, Drums, other stuff. She has a voice made for french pop, which sometimes makes an odd mix with the country twang of the music. No FCCs. Faves: 1, 10, 12 ~eme o.
1. Les Papillons Dans l'Estomac (3:14) Slow Cabaret/cafe. Breathy voice, clarinet, piano, guitar, accordion, violin
2. Ray LaMontagne (3:18) Bouncy rhythm, ragtime piano.
3. This Is My Home (3:34) Country cafe song. Pedal steel guitar.
4. Cactus Road (4:49) Opening guitar lines bring the desert to mind, strands of spaghetti western. Settles into a rolling rhythm.
5. Coyote (4:29) Rock-Bluesy. Bass and keyboards play a strong part. The song has a kind of tough-guy swagger the vocals don’t quite match.
6. My Runaway (3:33) Mid-fast. Guest vocalist Justin Olson leads off. M and F vox trade verses, coming together for the chorus. Accordion.
7. Vers Les Etoiles (2:52) Mid-tempo. Cello. Pedal steel guitar. Kind of a longing/searching/dreaming song.
8. La Nostalgie Du Temps Present (4:18) Slowish. Pedal steel guitar is almost an eerie presence. Piano.
9. Your Person (3:35) Slowish. Piano, Pedal Steel, dramatic tone. Lyrics about being the person “you” can rely on.
10. No Man's Land (3:34) Starts off with voice alone, then guitar enters. Sounds a little like she’s going punk-rock. But then there’s the trumpet.
11. Rolling Down The Route 66 (3:55) Country blues travelling song. Tenor Sax makes an appearance.
12. Le Dormeur De La Nationale (3:34) Gentle like a lullaby.
