Cold and abstract clarinet / cello droning. Clarinetist Gareth Davis summons the demons of the abyss on what I assume is a bass clarinet, much like trombonist Stuart Dempster of Deep Listening Band. Cellist Frances-Marie Uitti has a vibrant, colorful expressive range that puts her in the same league as Hildur Gudnadottir and Janel Leppin. This is some gorgeous, introspective, subliminal chaos; for fans of classical music, and for haters of classical music.
1. (4:40)* Sparse, dissonant arpeggios. Contemplative.
2. (7:15)* Stark, bleak, and frigid.
3. (4:18) feels like an afterthought of the previous track
4. (4:18) hollow, distant clanging starts us off. Subterranean rumbling, only hints of notes. Creepy stuff.
5. (20:52)** drones hovering in illogical, non-Euclidean space, as Lovecraft might term it if he were a music geek. Bizarre, ethereal, entrancing. Hollow passages of hallucinogenic screeching, blipping. And it’s long, so you gotta play it. Step outside and become a pure subject of will-less knowledge.
6. (5:35) Calm, chill at first. Then it starts to echo. Oh shit. Who’s there? Is someone behind me?
7. (13:34) Gentle crescendo, goes from quiet to chaotic.
