Genre: Tibetan Chant, Stoner Metal, Drone, Trance
Similar artists: Not sure, maybe Current 93, Black Sabbath, traditional Tibetan Chanting…
Fifth album from California based Om. Band members come from Stoner Metal background, and have attempted to work traditional Tibetan chant and Drone into their music. Results are mixed. I’d actually highly recommend this album if it weren’t for the overly serious male vocals. (Reviewed: 3/25/2013)
** 1. 5:33 – Addis – Female Sanskrit chanting over quiet drums, cello and occasional guitar.
2. 6:06 – State of Non-Return – Metal origins become clearer… deep male vocals over distorted bass. Calmer strings settle in during last two minutes.
3. 10:25 – Gethsemane – Long droning intro – drums come in at 3 minute mark. Current 93 style vocals at 4 minute.
* 4. 10:19 – Sinai – Begins with Arabic chanting, drums come in at 3:30 with English vocals soon after.
5. 11:24 – Haqq al-Yaqin – Sweet cello solo with cymbal background. Overly serious male vocals.
