INDIE HARD ROCK / GARAGE ROCK
SoCal (El Segundo) quartet, led by singer/guitarist/songwriter Bert Hoover, plays back to basics hard rock. It’s mostly distorted rhythm guitars, bass, and hard drumming. This is the group’s second full-length album (there was an EP in between). RIYL White Stripes, Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age, Black Keys, etc.
FCC issue on track 3.
1 * Fast. Noisy, raucous start. Love sick lyric, good group playing. Hard rockin’. (3:35)
2 ** Fast. Power chords and hard banging. Ramones like feel. Love it! (2:19)
3 (FCC: fucking) Mid-tempo. Retro feel. Drugged out, down and out. (3:05)
4 * Mid-fast. Syncopated rhythm. Straining vocal. Nice instrumental bridge. (2:44)
5 ** Very fast. Elemental rock n roll. Manic singing, pounding drums. Excellent. (2:24)
6 ** Fast. Extremely powerful. Neo-Punk barn burner. (3:13)
7 Mid-slow. Fuzz set to 11. Strung out vocal. (3:38)
8 Mid-tempo. A bit Doors-like: spooky vocal, an organ and cool guitar work. (4:32)
9 Mid-fast. Not one of Bert’s bests vocals. A bit tedious. A good guitar solo though. (2:56)
10 ** Fast. Straight-ahead hard rocker. You’ll be bobbing your head to this one. (4:49)
