Enchantment: The Spell of Nino Rota (Fabrizio Bosso, trumpet, London Symphony Orchestra)
Label: Schema Records, 2011
Nino Rota (1911-1979) was an Italian composer, pianist, conductor, and academic best known for his more than 150 film scores, including the first film in Coppola’s Godfather (Il Padrino) trilogy and the films of Frederico Fellini (8 ½, Juliet of the Spirits) and Franco Zeffirelli (Romeo and Juliet). Rota’s score for The Godfather ranks #5 on the American film Institute list of the greatest film scores. He was a renowned child prodigy, with his first oratorio written at age 11. Rota once said, “I’d do everything I could to give everyone a moment of happiness. That’s what’s at the heart of my music.” Fabrizio Bosso is a noted Italian jazz trumpeter, with 19 CDs, and multiple jazz festival awards.
