Post-punk, “goth”-tinged indie rock, consciously gazing towards the 80s, equal parts Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Killing Joke. Think fog machines, snare-driven rhythms, loud washes of echo and reverb, and layered, filtered vocals drifting into the ether. It’s pretty content with watching the world wash out from beneath it. Meow-friendly for sure. Friendly guys, Weekend played Treasure Island 2011, gave KZSU the time of day, a nice honest interview, admitted their love for The Cure, and joked about all the other “weekend” bands. No FCCs noted.
*1. Atmospheric post-punk, lots of space and kind of slow and anthemic. (5:55)
2. More upbeat, gnarled guitars, elevating vocals contrast with more industrial thud. (3:55)
*3. Hooky dreamy melancholy, well-constructed, accessible arena pop. Lovely (fades into next track). (5:03)
4. Almost a dancey beat, swirls of vocals, spinning around a water spout. (4:58)
5. Dense washes of effects, synths, guitars, locomotive percussion. Noisy and dreamy. (3:07)
6. Throbbing, snarling bass and rhythm paired with airy vocals, big guitar leads. (4:30)
7. Spaced out riffing and sprawling. (3:30)
*8. Shimmering, hypnotic, ambient, looped feel before settling into a bass-driven, slow post-punk song. Blissed out gorgeous pop. (4:47)
9. Poppy chorus with jabby guitars, really glacial atmospherics and folding synths paired with post-punky drums. (4:09)
10. Cure bass, mid-tempo march with breakdown in middle. (6:00)
