Hook-heavy rock n roll with trippy, clever lyrics. Most songs are mid-tempo, guitar, bass and drums. At this point, you probably know what Robert Pollard (of Guided By Voices) sounds like. This album sounds like Robert Pollard. True to form, the best songs are the short ones that grab your attention and then abruptly end. Ephemera, dust in the wind, etc. On the whole though, the songs feel fuller, less fractured than the GBV you know and love. FCC clean.
1. (2:39) jangley guitars and atmospherics, bursts of muscular power chords
2. (1:24) batshit lyrics, guitar noodling, some funky chords
3. (2:12) stripped down lo-fi piano and vocals
*4. (0:51) classic short GBV rocker, fun bass riffs at the end
*5. (1:44) sounds like a psychedelic cartoon train
6. (2:26) "who buries the undertaker?" ugh
7. (2:43) uptempo, off beat strumming, psych bridge
8. (2:33) minor key organ and big distorted guitars, crashing cymbals
9. (1:27) croony vocals, drums and chords sound like Pavement
*10. (0:44) short ode to drinking
11. (2:09) fast rock, lots of guitars, echo vocals
12. (1:38) light, distorted guitar, shallow cymbals, sounds like he's singing into a shoebox
13. (1:13) slow acoustic guitar, intelligible lyrics
14. (1:53) feels like a ballad but isn't. Kind of menacing.
15. (2:25) plodding, theatrical, turns into drunken singalong
16. (2:31) eighth note strumming, confusing grammar
17. (3:36) jangley power pop, cool bass bends
