Diva: Walking on Snow Label: Asia Music
Diva proves that China's got soul! A very nice release. Her original track, "Walking on Snow", is a blissfully enjoyable and charming house track that has cool & catchy synths & lovely melodies. It gets reinterpreted by three other remixers, and I think the Yoshi Horino remix (#3) is a grand slam home run. It really stands out for me, because it stays true to the inner-city soulful spirit of house music (and it's also an amazing 12 minutes long). The Datakestra remix is also strong, more as an electro track, and it's a bit more psychedelic. But please take a listen to the original (#1) and the Horino remix (#3) as they are by far the strongest tracks on this release.
1. (Original) (5:28) - Great track! Straight-up blissful & enjoyable house music featuring a really cute and catchy video-game tonal melody, backed up by what I think are harp-like strings and synths. Lovely and charming.
2. (Eddie Hu Remix) (6:47) - A tech-house remix that is much more of a dancefloor banger with lots of claps, hi-hats, snares. More of a driving beat and an insistent distorted vocal sample.
3. (Yoshi Horino Remix) (12:29) - THIS is a great remix. It keeps the chilled-out essence of the original and reinterprets it with a disco-soul vibe. It adds some nice old-school vocal samples and adds a soulful synth melody. Detroit & Chicago should take note of Yoshi Horino.
4. (Datakestra Remix) (8:28) - More cowbell please! A funky remix that has big synths, electro basslines, and builds up wonderfully. This is a very cool reinterpretation of the original.
