Brave Radar—Message Centre EP

Review by Luis A. Apolaya

Very simple and catchy indie rock, nothing more than a soft guitar, a subtle bass, a tame set of drums, and calm, breathy voices. All are excellent, perfect for a lazy Sunday afternoon or a night of calm contemplation. Recommended: 2, 4. RIYL Guided by Voices, Violent Femmes, Real Estate

*1. (1:13) Mid-tempo, composed guitar picking on top of bouncy bass and drums.
***2. (2:09) Mid-tempo, soft guitar strumming, drums calmly keep pace, somehow I feel I’ve heard this one before somewhere, but I feel too relaxed to know or care…
*3. (1:48) Guitar sounds suspicious and meanders about, voices make little effort to harmonize with guitar, but somehow it still fits.
**4. (2:37) Mid-fast, as excited as any track in this album will sound, they even included a guitar solo.
*5. (1:50) Mid-slow, sounds like an early demo version of the Beatles’ “Here, There, and Everywhere”.
*6. (2:15) Mid-tempo, guitars and vocals sound playful, feels eerily calm for talking about frustration over traffic in the freeway.
*7. (2:15) Mid-tempo, ominous guitar picking amid a subtle set of cymbals, then gets more perky as snares come in
8. (3:03) Mid-tempo, not that much different from the rest of the album in its feel or composition, just turns out to be longer
