Seattle’s Le Shat Noir are proud, underground practitioners of the shitcore genre - deliberately awful punk music featuring humorously pathetic lyrics and often created with rudimentary synthesizers and outdated electronic equipment. Their debut album Try To Listen To This paints a solid portrait of their “I don’t give a shit” attitude with really catchy tracks full of stripped-down punk rhythms, rambling vocals, distorted synthesizer sounds, and lots of scatological references. This is how the band describes itself: “Imagine if you will that Big Black is skull fucking Devo while listening to Lost Sounds cover songs by The Fall. We'd sound nothing like that.”
RIYL: Early Devo, Big Black, Nip Drivers, Pussy Galore, Secret Hate, & The Screamers.
FCC WARNINGS: 2, 4, 5, 6, and 11
Recommended Tracks: 1, 3, 6 [FCC], 7, 9, 12, and 13
1. (1:14) **Back In The Pocket – Great punky opener. Fast and to the point.
2. (1:42) Not Moesha – FCC (shit & motherfucker). Fast music with crazy lyrics and a great beat.
3. (2:08) *Self Release – College radio circa 1996. The most accessible and popiest track on the album. Totally playable.
4. (3:08) Shit In My Hair – FCC (shit and motherfuckers everywhere!!). Why do the most amazing tracks have FCC violations? Why!!!
5. (1:12) Try To Listen To This – FCC (fuck, fuckers, motherfuckers, etc.). The Screamers will be proud.
6. (3:18) **Hate Pee – FCC (fucker, shit, motherfucker). Nice drums! Lots of screams, and I hate pee too! Too bad there’s not a “Radio Friendly Mix” of this one.
7. (2:32) *You Need A Knob, Son – Great fast track with a hypnotic bass line and a repetitive synth riff. Yeah!
8. (2:48) Doug Needs More Menace – Pussy Galore inspired. Nice rhythm.
9. (2:47) *Cousin Anal – Catchy and fucked up song. Cool synths!
10. (1:31) Histamine Response – Physiologically freaky. Great beat.
11. (3:26) Dick Wagon – FCC (Bag of dicks here). Screams and lots of Richards in this track. Great garage rock beat.
12. (3:15) **Bleep In My Hair [Radio Friendly Mix] – The “FCC clean” version is awesomely weird. Play it!
13. (3:34) **Bleep Wagon [Radio Friendly Mix] – The “FCC clean” version is here for you to play.
