Two track single, both atypical for Kyle Hall since he usually produces stuff that you'd label as house (albeit of the weird and experimental variety). The first track is hard to classify bass music, the second is hard to classify spacey mellow electronica. Hyperdub released this, and both sides are right in their wheelhouse.
RIYL: kode9, daedelus, flying lotus
1: reverbed rubbery kind of hollow bass drum hits and a dubby repetition of a vocal sample saying the word "life". bass line comes in, followed by stuttery hats and snares, and a couple chiptune-y synth lines. hats get smeared out in echo at times, and some moog-y synth makes an appearance on the highs. mellow female backup vocal samples (wordless) and some cowbell after the midway point. vaguely dark, vaguely tribal (in a futuristic way).
2: clockwork sunset. or maybe clockwork sunrise. thick warm analog bass, wistful melody. steady tick-tock, intermittent kicks. bass gets louder and more echo-y as the song progresses. occasional gentle female "aaahs" in the background. starts softly, grows, fades, ends softly. could almost be a lost track from daedelus' "denies the day's demise" album. beautiful.
both tracks are great, but #2 is why i burned this since #1 is already on the hyperdub 10.1 comp in our library.
