Caroline Rose has a real country feel, with tinges of your favorite indie country-folk-rock folks (Sharon Van Etten, Neko Case, Shovels and Rope, a bit of Tom Waits on the edges, maybe some Bright Eyes minus his voice…). Very All-American singer songwriter, but in her own “you go girl” kinda way. – DJ Gizmo
FCC clean. Recommended tracks: 1, 2, 6, 11
1. * (3:15) Groovy, rollicking tune. Very Shovels and Rope and a bit Tom Waitsy.
2. * (3:32) Semi-anthemic, great synth sound. A bit moody; rootsy vocals.
3. (3:44) Straightforward ballad with pedal steel and all the fixins. Nothing terribly exciting, but nicely put together.
4. (3:43) Another rootsy number, more up-tempo and poppy. Definitely a little anthemic, in a kind of 90s alt-rock way.
5. (3:18) Soulful, Waitsy rumble. Talky and badass, with brief flashes of instrumental chaos… this song has spurs.
6. * (4:13) Americana, with strings and all. Up-tempo, nice galloping beat. Put this song on when you get into your car and just start driving, with no destination in mind.
7. (1:49) Playful, quick ditty with political themes. Vocals are kind of Bob Dylan-esque, in that talky way he has.
8. (3:55) Up-tempo story song. Western feel, complete with jangly strumming and harmonica.
9. (5:18) Long, M. Wardy guitar intro. Sweet & sad ballad, very emotional and minimalist.
10. (3:10) Touch of bluegrass. Up-tempo, rich instrumentation, husky vocals. Nice tune.
11. * (2:26) Pseudo country-spiritual. Upbeat, galloping, and uplifting. Fun little guitar solo in there.
