Ima X Atto Plain
Daring new noise compositions from an Oakland, CA duo (Atto Plain) with guest composer Ima. These local conceptual artists are well known for many other projects, eg Michael Mersereau is the bass player in Day of Noise performers TheeAnnoying. All songs transport you to another place -
a creepier, weirder place filled with unnerving, ambiguous monsters from a cult sci-fi horror film. Excellent stuff. Review by Rev. R4D4.
Best songs: Any of them. 2 is outstanding, though.
1. ...-.... ./ .-.. . - - ..-. ... (6:17) Morse code blips and beeps lead into chaos detuned guitar strums and snare drums rolls. Like
the inside of a cold war bunker hurling from the base at the dark side of the moon into some deserted south pacific island. Chimes and whispers
round about your brain as you come to from the harsh descent. Oh, the title means "Nothing to do." Duh. Next thing you're gonna tell me you
don't even know the NATO phonetic alphabet.
2. Eline (9:33) Begins more sleepy than track 1, lullaby's and a light cinematic ambiance filters in. The slow build from sparse into more emphatic bells that you only hear because HAARP is attacking your mental state as the air fills with
artificial winds.
3. Thin Film (9:02) This piece pulls out all the stops for the cinematic influences, with a Japanese voice over some very electric sounds from a TV voice to the words floating through machines. slaps and drums are virtually attacking at every possible point but still sounding well composed. Bravo.
4. The Letters (8:20) A constant taping, not unlike that nagging feeling when you need to reply to an email. thoughts skirting by, the drain opens, the drain closes, maybe I need to go outdoors...
