Trippy psychedelic jams from two Montreal-based masters. Suuns propagate pulsating electronic tinged indie rock while Jerusalem in My Heart takes inspiration from the tapes of his native Lebanon to create awe-inspiring experimental meets middle eastern sounds. And guess what? They decided to answer my prayers and made an album together. Hopefully the first of more to come.
Favorites: 3, 2, 7, 5, 1. FCCs: None.
1.(6:15) ** Mysterious synth melody. Drums arrive and builds into krauty pulse. Really distorted vocals more texture than voice. Cool arabic influenced guitar work
2.(3:50) *** A bonafide jam. Desert blues guitar. PLAY PLAY PLAY
3.(3:42) **** One of my favorite songs of the year I think. Starts tentative but then locks into rhythm. Great Arabic male vocals. Wish there were more tracks like this on the album.
4.(5:48) Subdued synth plus steady 4/4 beat. Slight male vocals, guitar, and field recordings enter.
5.(5:13) ** Metallic clattering…tense. industrial. gorgeous.
6.(2:03) Bass guitar…bare male vocals (suuns) mixed with auto-tuned vocals. Simple little lullaby type song.
7.(8:44) *** More head-noddding krauty goodness. Shed back layers into arabic vocals and moody drift. Switches between these sections and eventually ends with the vocals.
