Soft electronic/electro swing/bachelor pad music. Something you might listen to in a padded lounge with lots of blue lights while sipping a fruity cocktail. Easy listening, but the accordion provides a nice sharp accent. French, Spanish, and German lyrics provide cosmopolitan flavor. This album feels like it exists outside of any particular culture, in a funky liminal space. It’s also kind of cheesy, but that’s not so bad. I like this.
Recommended: 1, 3, 4. No FCCs, at least not in English.
1) “Una Cartina” (5:31): Someone speaking in Spanish. Funky Latin jazzish beat. This is lounge music. Great.
2) “Mon Gateau” (4:42): Accordion. This one is a bit Frenchier, but still really smooth. Girls singing in the background.
3) “Tout Tourne” (5:27): The beat is a little stronger here, although this is still a far cry from traditional electronic music. Accordion hits hard. Cool stuff.
4) “Tangodeur” (4:02): A tango. As brutally crisp as you would want a tango to be. Accents from strings, flute.
5) “Promenade a La Mer” (3:20): A really smooth three minutes. Maybe a bit monotonous.
6) “Is That What You Need” (3:25): Much more explicitly electronic. Less European, more American. Smooth, not funky. Sort of a misfit on the album.
7) “Gekoepfte Utopien” (4:21): And we’re back to the funky accordion-rich European sound. This time the lyrics are German—awesome. Very authoritative voice.
8) “Noctambule” (2:18): Instrumental. Not a strong beat. Just relaxing twinkly stuff.
9) “Promenade a la Mer (Jet Set Chill Mix)” (4:24): Ultra smooth, blissed out. This truly is the chill mix. I’m not really a fan but I can see someone liking it.
10) “Tangodeur (Unplugged)” (3:55): The acoustic version of the original Tangodeur. I think it works best as a curiosity.
Tracks 11-13 are radio edits. Utilize these if you’re pressed for time.
