CONTEMPORARY JAZZ: PIANO TRIO
This is pianist/composer Kait Dunton’s third album as a leader and the debut of this new ensemble, Trio Kait, featuring electric bass and drums. That electric bass provides a fusion-like vibe on many tracks. All tracks are original compositions by Dunton.
All instrumental. No FCC issues.
* Fast. Spirited & lively tune that picks up more and more momentum as it goes. (3:46)
Fast. Pretty, impressionistic piano fantasy. It’s quite short: could be an intro to #3. (0:42)
** Fast. Simple, repeated melody on piano. Prominent, driving bass & drums. (3:33)
* Fast. Interesting rhythmically. Lots of syncopation & group interaction. (6:14)
Mid-tempo. Quite a lot more relaxed that all the preceding. Less rhythm section. (5:39)
** Fast. Very energetic. Strong bass solo in middle. (3:18)
Slow. It’s not that I don’t care for ballads, but this is too slow and sleepy. (6:23)
Slow. Bass & piano exchange little soulful, bluesy licks. Drums just keep time. (4:38)
* Fast. Nifty little number that races on down the road. It’s got some drum breaks. (2:54)
* Mid-tempo. Happy, feel-good melody with an easy-going swing. (4:21)
Slow to mid-tempo. Sort of a ballad but not as sad as the title would suggest. (5:33)
* Slow. Cute, soulful melody played over & over. Tender and affectionate. (2:04)
Mid-slow. A gentle conclusion that doesn’t say much. (3:09)
