The Lickets
Dolls In Color
International Corporation
A bit of a new direction for local duo, The Lickets. In past years they’ve soothed our frazzled souls by playing a meditative final hour of Day of Noise using cello, flute, dulcimer, laptop, etc to create dreamy organic bliss out waves. Now they turn to synths and acoustic guitar plus more. It’s still dreamy but maybe with a Tangerine Dream feel RIYL Tangerine Dream, Sarah Davachi, Megabats
****1. (7:01) Driving krautrock synth plus beautiful harp. Synth adds layers and depth. Gets zoom-y. Lots of layers and counterpoint - very epic
*2. (4:09) Sunny bouncy synth plus plucked guitar. Hell maybe it’s a dulcimer, I’d like to think so. Plus echoey keyboard. This is what hold music should be. Music for waiting patiently
*3. (3:39) Decaying keyboard falls mimicked by guitar. Floaty ethereal barely there female ooh ahs joined later by some unobtrusive male vocals. Idly spinning around till you’re dizzy
***4. (3:52) Quick chords and sparkly synth jig. Computer modem bubbles. Layers of ooh and ahhs and fuzz
*5. (2:59) Solitary guitar gentle melody over soft layers of piano, cello, fiddle drone
**6. (4:32) Big bassy bubbly beat plus interesting flute guitar and violin touches
**7. (3:06) Keyboard theremin weirdness drone. Creepy, buzzy, radio interference, great
8. (7:01) Very quiet, faint percussive noises, white noise wall of sound burst your ear drums it’s so quiet
***9. (4:48) Quiet fade in of synth and guitar meanderings into the sunset
***10. (6:22) Strong but gentle guitar strumming, high synths swaying in the breeze along with that beautiful flute drone that the Lickets have perfected
