Nice EP that expands on the sonic palette of LP1 with heavier ambient sounds and an overall darker atmosphere. Still pretty similar to LP1 though—ethereal vocals that are often buried in effects, and lyrics mostly about sex and love. Lots of churning basslines and heavy, slow drumming. No FCCs; our copy is edited.
RIYL: James Blake, How To Dress Well, Blood Orange
Favorites: 1, 3, 5
*1. (3:03) Figure 8 - Strong, punchy drums. Soulful, melancholy vocals. Interesting chorus with several layers and a variety of vocal styles and whispers. Never breaks its tightly controlled, churning grip.
2. (3:11) I’m Your Doll - Starts off simple with mostly just whispered, breathy vocals. Beat drops ~1:13 and some occasional drumming comes in. Reminiscent of early James Blake. Gradually gets heavier and builds in more background noise and distortion. Lyrics are mostly “I’m your doll”.
*3. (4:32) In Time - Opens with an ominous, repetitive, fast keyboard melody. Chiming, whistling synths. Vocals become weirder and more distorted as song progresses. Lyrical content transitions from sex to raving. Club music, FKA style.
4. (4:19) Glass & Patron - Darker, atmospheric. Heavy, shooting beat plays throughout.
*5. (3:36) Mothercreep - Celestially soulful. Powerfully prominent vocals, sound a bit like Sade.
