Review: Bob Dylan 1965 - 1966, The Cutting Edge Sampler
Label: Columbia Legacy
Reviewed by: Warren Beer

This sampler is a set of recordings from 1965 and 1966 by master Rock and Folk lyricist Bob Dylan. A collection of unreleased demos and outtakes from rehearsal sessions. Each one is a gem but I highly recommend Tracks 1, 2, 8, 9.
No FCC issues
1. (2:56) Solo acoustic guitar rendition of this swaying song about a perplexing woman
2. (2:37) Fun and raucous early Dylan electric rock & roll hit single; very peppy
3. (1:43) Partial rehearsal recording of "Like a Rolling Stone"
4. (3:28) An electric blues about a frustrated traveler; lazy shuffling tempo rehearsal version
5. (1:59) Piano folk ballad with beautiful harmonica solo; partial rehearsal version
6. (5:37) Slow shuffling ballad about a nightmarish day in Juarez, Mexico
7. (3:28) A full-blown rock & roll attack against Dylan's folkie persona
8. (6:01) A garage band rock & roll sound sneering at a controversial female character
9. (7:39) One of Dylan's best raucous rocker with him howling about a love who isn't there
10. (4:56) A slow song with beautiful underlying organ and guitar parts, same chord progression as "Like a Rolling Stone." Has a San Francisco reference
11. (3:26) A sarcastic up tempo view of a popular female high fashion item of the early 1960's
12. (4:01) A speedier version than the "Blonde on Blonde" rendition with lyrics tightly compressed into the music's fast-paced rhythm
13. (5:04) One of only two versions of this song recorded by Dylan, very up-tempo with great harmonica solo
14. (3:21) Fast paced 8 bar blues with lively harmonica solo
15. (2:51) Very fast upbeat bouncy song which was a big Dylan hit
