West Philadelphia Orchestra takes on the newly trendy Eastern European brass band genre with interesting English lyrics and African and other influences; fun!
NO FCC's; Favorite tracks: 1, 5, 7, 11
*1 – Flying Solo (4:50) starts with hand-clapping; great horn playing. English lyrics
2 – Pleasant Afternoon (3:54) – starts with horn fanfare; circular in a good way
3- Maksimov Čoček – (4:06) – moves right along with treble horns undergirded by bass rumble in 9/8 time
4 – Zla S'dba (3:25) – Slavic (?) vocal backed by brass
*5- Račenica Philadelphia (6:32) – [rajeneetza] starts off with interesting percussion; Bulgarian folk dance tune with wild accompaniment and singing
6- Čoček it Out (5:08) – happy and circular; trumpet solo and then brass in harmony; somewhat drawn out finale
*7- Abre Ramce (3:37) – starts slower, builds, more and more instruments layer on; vocalist comes in; almost flamenco-ish; wild!
8-Truck on Fire (5:05) – a little bit minor key; English lyrics
9-Tour de Filli (4:04) – fast, straight ahead; nice solos with solid horn bed
10-Proslava (2:27) – fast, circular
*11- Super Lunch! (5:29) – crazy fast with yelling start; cockeyed English lyrics; definitely the noise you need :-) (weird fart-like sounds at the end)
