Seminal No-Wave artist from NYC mid/late 70's scene releases new material that drinks from same well but is far more wise and mature. The original stuff (that you can find along with Mars, Lydia Lunch, DNA et al on the 'No New York" vinyl comp that we have) relied on pure spastic energy that was made unique by dissonant crazy skronky saxaphone and insane screamed vocals, with high energy drums/bass/guitar. Chance has grown up and while those elements surely are present here, these tracks take on more of a Motown soul, or Staxx Records funk, with big band brass orchestral backgrounds and funky guitar. What really distinguishes this, besides his inimitable sax playing and vocal style, is the wise poignant excellent lyrics, songwriting. Truly a masterpiece; thank god Chance didnt fade away into a heroin fueled death like so many of his era. All excellent, no FCCs.
1) (4:35) right mix of funky rock and weirdness. 2)* (3:35) high pitched skronk and no wave dissonance appears 3) (4:57) soulful and mellower ballady. 4) (5:34) mid paced funky with great searing guitar lead in middle. 5)* (3:27) cool guitar, more rockin feel 6)* (4:39) mid paced great lyrics about life 7) (4:24) mellow 8) (5:04) fun-kay
