Label: Pi Recordings
Genre: Jazz
FCCs: none
Review: guitarist and composer with a unique style of playing creates an unstable realm of rhythm and melody full of darting and surprising structures. The quartet is fully up to the task and the playing is superb and innovative throughout.
If You Like: Thelonious Monk, Robert Fripp, Omar Sosa, Stanley Jordan, Andy Summers
Favorite tracks: (1) Kudzu (2) Mischief (3) Box In a Box (7) The Calendar (8) Caduceus
Track Review: 1/(5:21) guitar starts> uptempo funky> frenetic interplay between musicians> quick stop 2/ (3:24) bass starts> midtempo funky jam> piano plays counterpoint, takes off on uptempo solo> guitar/bass duet slows to a stop 3/(5:47) guitar starts> uptempo off-kilter jam> fade 4/(6:43) slow guitar/piano duet starts> midtempo jam> fade 5/(2:42) drums start> fast tempo jam> fade 6/(3:46) drum solo joined by bass starts> fast tempo jam> quick stop 7/(9:16) guitar starts slow, builds to midtempo jam with tropical feel> moves uptempo on guitar solo & slows to fade 8/(6:41) bass starts> uptempo romp with great interplay between musicians> quick stop 9/(1:07) short slow guitar solo
