Magical sounding CD by singer from Cameroon singing in his native Bassa language in homage to his hero, blues legend Skip James; accompanied by guitar, banjo, cello, and trombone; definitely a unique sound with lively accompaniment from a variety of unexpected instruments; if you like Digdig, you'll like this; fusion that's so fused it sparkles from its many facets; great rhythms
NO FCC's: Favorite tracks: 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10, 11
*1- Ake – 3:33 – haunting voice echoed with what sounds like harmonica; steady drum and chorus
2-- Kiki – 1:51 – uptempo – catchy
*3—Wap Do Wap –2:15 – starts with cello segues to fingerpicking guitar and voice --- very danceable
*4 –Lon –3:00 – starts almost Hawaiian sounding with harmonics; segues to a kind scat in conversation with the trombone
*5—Tell Me –4:19 – starts with humming underpinned by guitar; lyrics in English pidgin; lovely
6- One Love—2:04—at least partly in English with interesting string and vocal underpinning
7 – SJ – :46 – plaintive lyrics
*8 –Mama –2:04 – island style rhythm, subtle instrumentation
9 –Ndje Yem –3:16 – walking bass intro; slower beat; very cool trombone
*10- Mout – 2:22 – lyrics over fingerpicking guitar with trombone wailing in
*11-Ndjel –3:28 – light-fingerpicking with delicate lyrics gathers steam with sounds from all corners
