After three full length albums of full Americana with all of the seams exposed, Widowspeak are now going the full Mazzy Star, leaning into the dream pop world with Expect the Best. Expect The Best, is a fitting analog to the nine-song collection within: mesmerizingly introspective, nakedly nostalgic. Here Widowspeak continues its exploration of dreamy, ’90s-indebted “cowboy grunge,” somewhere in the overlap between sombre indie rock, dream pop, slow-core and their own invented genre.
