Meg & Laura Baird (of Heron Oblivion/Espers/Watery Love and Glenn Jones, respectively) have been making music together since they were kids, but just recently released their own LP together. Experimental folk with dreamy vocal harmonies, guitars, and spacious imaginative atmospheres. Marisa Anderson’s style of playing, singing was the first thing that came to mind as I listened.
(this is a new Ba Da Bing reissue of a record that had a very limited release in 2012)
Favorites: 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 10
Related: Marisa Anderson, Nick Drake, Steve Gunn
1. (3:37) ** On and On—Simple sparse folk, traveling voice, flute & banjo
2. (10:21) * New Green Place—Meandering instrumental guitar and flute
3. (2:46) Looking at Things Up Close—Bit more country folk, strong banjo
4. (2:26) * Towpath Drill—Closer to pop, dual vocals and full guitars/banjo, banjo sounds like Casimir Pulaski Day
5. (4:12) ** Where the Waters Flow—Hazy 60s folk atmosphere, calm and spacious
6. (2:35) After the Work is Done—Pleasant guitars sunshine
7. (2:35) ** Tracks—Evocative, strong guitars, nice dreamy vox
8. (1:46) * Until the Bottle is Dry—Chugging cloudy instrumental folk country
9. (3:23) A Soldier Being Tired—Very minimal banjo, voice, and strings, intense
10. (3:31) *** Going West with Secrets—Mystical journey through golden fields, just lovely
