Rodney Foster, “For You to See the Stars”
Over the years of reviewing music, I’ve grown wary of over-sleek, aesthetically pleasant packaging. And this CD cover has it all; a star-filled sky above the pastel remnants of a sunset , an almost silhouette of a man with a guitar from the back. I have learned that slick production is often used to bolster mediocre music. I became even more alarmed when I opened the CD to receive Rodney’s eerie stare. I also read that there is a companion book of short stories that go along with the sones available for purchase. I’m not sure which came first, but I do like the thematic context. The songs stand alone, but I wonder if they would seem better if I knew the stories them Best for me: 5,6 7, 8, 10, 11.
1. Slow/Med - Storytelling
2. Med - Acoustic strumming country rock
3. Med - I’d call this a slightly modified honky tonk
4. Slow - Love song
*5. Slow - Least country-ish, heartfelt emotional song
*6. Med - Americana- Emotional to me, but why?
*7. Slow/Med - Country rock, evoactive
*8. Slow - Singer/songwriter style, nice guitar
9. Med - Country rock and roll
**10. Slow - Vocally dominant, acoustic song
*11. Slow - Instrumental
