KZSU ex-staffers’ noise rock improv project hits the bullseye yet again. Two long tracks and one very brief, the middle one being an industrial noise drone epic, the first quintessential Noriegas slow to evolve balm into heaviness, the last a brief foray into bombastic heaviness. Some sort of instrument that sounds like something wind based, middle eastern, finds its way into this stuff lending it an exotic flare, something sorta new for them. All instrumental. All excellent.
1) (22:17) begins ominous, droney, metallic, then a killer plodding stoney jam ensues – midway a layer of noise appears and ratchets up the intensity, a very strange wind instrument joins the fray giving it an exotic tone in the end 2) (15:36) a lovely sustain drone starts this, then begins a dark exploration in noise, drone, haunting tones 3) (2:27) more of a Swans’esque heavy noise layering, drums return, just wish it were longer
