“No Recover” Eric Bachmann
Authentic and at times atmospheric folk-rock from the former lead singer and guitarist of Archers of Loaf and contributor to Crooked Fingers. This is Bachmann’s 4th solo album. The textured sound relies on acoustic and electric guitar, with subtle synths and rhythms, and rich harmonies. There’s a sadness and weariness throughout, but a hopefulness as well. Lots of good things here.

Recommended: 1, 2, 6, 7, 8, 3/4. No FCCs detected.
1. (4:37) Jaded Lover, Shady Drifter — Rapid tapping rhythm. Fingerpicked acoustic guitar. Vocals build slowly to reach soaring heights. Chorus adds to the drama. A few synth trimmings as well. ****
2. (4:45) Daylight — Uplifting ballad with intricate, repeating, bell-like synth track. Keys and upper-register lead vocals, with whispery backing vocals. Like a radio-friendly tune from the early 1970s. ***
3. (4:49) Murmuration Song — Rolling, flowing tune with a slight Americana flavor. Nice pedal steel guitar in lead break. (Segues into and can be played with #4.) **
4. (2:19) Boom And Shake — Similar feeling to #3, with banjo added. Waves of noise wash underneath. More of a finish to #3 than a track that stands on its own.
5. (1:53) Yonah — Beautifully fingerpicked guitar with angelic chorus. Otherwise, no lyrics.
6. (4:36) No Recover — Moody, deliberate and thoughtful with prominent fingerpicked guitar. Keyboards strings add depth to the melody. Harmonized lead vocals. ***
7. (3:00) Waylaid — Brighter and more upbeat with fingerpicked guitar and a bouncier, rhythmic feeling. Ringing guitar in lead break. “Just a chance you have to take.” ***
8. (3:23) Wild Azalea — Chamber-folk with synth orchestra and rapid fingerpicked guitar woven together. Americana-tinged vocals. Chimey. **
9. (5:17) Dead And Gone — Slightly twangy closer with atmospheric synth swirling under. Strummed acoustic guitar. Keyboards.
