Academic-based, American guitarist Anton Machleder, produced this CD with fellow classical and jazz musicians; wide range of material played expertly; some covers and some originals; Machleder has very eclectic tastes
NO FCC's; Favorite tracks: 1, 7, 11, 15
*1—Cafe 1930 – 7:08 – limpidly beautiful flute and guitar arrangement Astor Piazzolla work “Histoire du Tango” on flute and guitar
2 –Nightclub 1960 – 5:54 – Piazzolla again on flute and guitar; tempo is more variable and sprightly; more experimental
3 – Allegretto commodo –4:06 –from Gnattali's “Sonata for Cello and Guitar” – guitar and cello interweave and play off each other; starts quick and then slows with more cello bowing and guitar chords; speeds up again before end
4 –Adagio – 3:35 – from Gnattali's sonata – more stately beginning with cello bowing under treble guitar notes; reflective
5 – Other Tones –5:15 – piece by Rez Abbasi –played by the composer on steel string guitar with Machleder on nylon strung guitar; intricate; slows past mid-point and sounds a little like slack key
6 –Gypsy Dance –3:31 – has vocals and rock vibe backed by lots of guitar; kind of vanilla gypsy
*7—Bells Over the Genesee--”Omar's Lament” –5:24-- interesting composition performed with ney and guitar that circles around under it; dreamy
8-- Locrian Canon –2:40-- guitar with synchs; a bit clock-like
9 - Cantos Guajiros—2:56-- tuneful and folk-y, uptempo
10--Homenaje al Bongos–2:51—slower; only two guitars but sounds like more instruments
*11—All Blues – 3:00-- well-known composition by Miles Davis; nicely covered
12—Black Orpheus –3:05—another well-known piece with not too much value added
13—Ain't No Sunshine –4:50-- vocals backed by guitar, bass, and keyboards; some nice guitar improv
14—T-Bone Shuffle –3:54-- electric guitar takes over here with vocals; shouted question at the end
*15—Who's Been Talking – 5:08-- I like the vocals better on this than the previous; slow sultry rhythm
16—You Belong to Me –4:03—nice little dance number
