Further From the Storm – Elliot Peck (2018) review by Mr. Bones
In her debut solo release, Marin based Elliot Peck provides a top flight sound that deftly mixes a wide array of styles including americana, blues and swamp rock. Perhaps it was seeing the likes of Koko Taylor and Ray Charles as girl mixed with her time with Bob Wier and Phi Lesh after going west to the Bay Area that gave her the chops needed to pull of a freshmen release packed with so many different musical styles.
RIYL: Bonnie Raitt, Norah Jones, Eileen Jewel
*1 River's Path - slow love song with beautiful slide break (3:15)
*2 Silver & Gold - uptempo commentary on whether we can 'own' anything (3:16)
*3 One of These Days - slow, eery blues number about handling negativity (4:04)
*4 Highway Song - happy, uptempo ode the life of a traveling troubadour (3:56)
5 Out Sailing - spare & lovely features showing her great vocal range (3:23)
*6 Good For You I Guess - fun uptempo rocker great break (2:40, too short :-( )
*7 Leave Me by the Sea - slow, melancholic heartbreaker (4:18)
*8 Hard Lines - slow tearjerker ala Patsy Kline with great slide (3:30)
9 I Lost It - Rock solid cover of this great LW classic (3:24)
*10 Another Life Ago - slow (3:52)
11 Give it Aways - uptempo toe tapper (2:48)
* Mr. Bones especially likes these
