Oscar & The Majestics was a Gary, Indiana psychedelic garage rock group active in the mid- to late-1960s. Rare & Unissued Cuts '64-'66 is a collections of mostly unreleased cuts of pure and unadulterated classic garage rock. Fuzz, surf, and a go-go.
Something else from the press release:
Blast off! Rescued from the energetic ether, this set of six largely unreleased tracks from Midwest mid-sixties garage heroes Oscar & the Majestics is loaded with heavy riffs, tasty guitar licks, pounding drums, and lots of fuzz. Included here is the hideously rare and ferocious take on a Kingsmen classic, an explosive adjustment to "Shake A Tail Feather," and even more unearthed gems in Oscar & the Majestics oeuvre!
RIYL: The Standells, Jan & Dean, The Remains, The Electric Prunes and The Surfaris.
FCC CLEAN!
Recommended Tracks: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
1. (2:23) **Got To Have Your Lovin’ – Medium-up/Fast tempo. Cool beat. Fuzzy guitars. Accelerates towards the end.
2. (2:18) ***Anything You Want – Medium-up tempo. More cool vibes and fuzzy guitars. Almost instrumental. Yeah baby.
3. (2:50) *Shake A Tail Feather – Medium-up tempo. Surf pop a la Jan & Dean. Think of 1960’s beach party movies. Dance time.
4. (1:58) **Haunted House –Medium-up tempo. Garage rock sound here. Almost instrumental. Nice guitars.
5. (2:23) ***Whiplash – Medium-up tempo. Cool garage recording with a surf vibe. Sax solo included. Instrumental.
6. (2:28) **Get Ready – Medium-up tempo. Another groovy garage a go-go track. Great cover of The Temptations/ Rare Earth song.
