Carolina Confessions – The Marcus King Band (as told by Mr. Bones)

As a native of Greenville, SC and a 4th generation musician, Marcus King has the bonafides to create a great southern gothic disk. Listening to it reminded me of walking the streets of Charleston thinking of all the things that have transpired over there over last 250 years. His songs spin great tales of a sinner seeking redemption in search of a brighter future. The lyrics are deftly matched by equally powerful musicianship lead by his great guitar work and a brass section that can surely be heard in the heavens he is reaching out to for salvation.

*1) Confessions - powerful story about seeking forgiveness for one's
sins with great guitar & brass interplay
*2) Where I'm Headed - uptempo gospel influenced rocker about the
search for a brighter future (4:50)
*3) Homesick - joyous mid-tempo love song with the whole band
stretching out in the break
*4) 8 A.M. - soulful story of an alcoholic regretting his state with
great sax work & King nailing the high notes (3:36)
5) How Long - funky & uptempo ala Sam & Dave (5:05)
6) Remember - downtempo, mostly acoustic love song (4:00)
*7) Side Door - mid-temp, powerful & soulful love song with band
firing on all cylinders (4:23)
*8) Autumn Rains - mid-tempo story of rain as metaphor for a new start in life
9) Welcome 'Round Here - hard rocking story of family estrangement over
political issues with a trippy break
10) Goodby Carolina - mid-tempo, poignant story of one contemplating
suicide (6:05)

* Mr. Bones especially likes these
