Frenzied all-girl Japanese punk. Raw, messy, and impossibly energetic. The name “Otoboke Beaver” comes from a Kyoto Love Hotel, and the group self-describes as a “Japanese girls ‘knock out or pound cake’ band.” Too damn cool. For fans of Melt-Banana, Guerilla Toss, SCANDAL, Shonen Knife, CHAI. All lyrics are in Japanese. Try: 12, 1, 10, 4, 3
(*1.) (2:04) Fast, bouncy bass, pounding guitars, layered yelled vocals. A bit of a rockabilly vibe (2.) (1:13) Squeals of guitar, yelped vocals (*3.) (2:15) Bouncy bass and surfy guitar (*4.) (2:21) Upbeat with a nice melodic chorus (5.) (1:54) Spazzy furious guitarwork and belted vocals. Interesting pace changes and sudden stops (6.) (2:28) Full-throttle with clever alternating vocals by the whole group. Chill bridge and then it’s back off to the races (7.) (2:11) High-energy chanty (8.) (2:06) Sparse, minimal, almost sing-songy at times (9.) (2:16) Slow intro leads to full-out grindcore (*10.) (2:47) Funky intro leads into distortion-soaked rocker (11.) (0:53) Short, spazzy (*12.) (1:43) Staccato with start-stop dynamics (13.) (1:57) Fast and powerful with spiraling guitar and belted group vocals (14.) (0:18) Punchy and extremely short
