Moon Duo have always just sounded so cool. Theirs was a nihilistic, nocturnal brand of psychedelia: mechanistic krautrock rhythms, guitars overdriven into furiously combusting engines, a detached delivery that alternated between slithering and swaggering. ‘Stars Are The Light,’ is a real turning point for Moon Duo. The title track is immaculate and breeds upon a newfound love of dance. There is an overwhelming groove, far distant from their musical origin. Instead, it is perhaps best suited to the semi-illegal acid raves of British past.
Like: Wooden Shjips, Lumerians, The Black Angels, Psychic Ills
FCC: Clean
Play: 2, 5, 7
1.Flying (4:35) A wash in lush sonic textures and psychedelic grooves that make hypnotic guitar stylings.
2.Stars Are The Light (4:25) Overwhelming groove, far distant from their musical origin.
3.Fall In Your Love (4:16) Heavy bass, scratchy synths are added in before guitar riffs create a cowboy vibe.
4.The World And The Sun (4:48) Takes that bass to a new level with glitch and percussion to make it a stand-out track.
5.Lost Heads (6:26) Fluttering flashes of color and letting them dance around in the air together.
6.Eternal Shore (5:38) Kicks in on a percussive muzak groove of the sort Stereolab lost track.
7.Eye 2 Eye (4:21) High paced, fuzzed out guitar riffs reminiscent of past releases and sounding a bit out of place.
8.Fever Night (5:16) Soft guitar that gives off a folk vibe before euphoric synths are added in.
